It was a quiet night. A little candlelight, a bottle of French wine, and that charming little French accent.

We wanted something that spoke to our overall mission.
If only it were true.

The reality is this: We needed a name for our company, and all the good English ones were taken. And any old name wouldn't do.

We wanted something that spoke to our overall mission.

Something that captured the excitement of the technological age in which we live. Something that promised innovation, exploration and a new day of discovery.

So we, of course, turned to a dead language.

Captaré came from the Latin capto, which means "to seek" or "to strive after." It also came to company founders Jamie Story and Malcolm Eaton at virtually the same time. After capto-ing for months, Malcolm came across the word one night and excitedly gave Jamie a call. To which Jamie said he and his wife, Denise, found the word 10 minutes earlier.

This is true.

And with that auspicious beginning, Captaré was christened. Pronounced cap-TAR-eh (rhymes with Volare), it may be a mouthful. And typed, it's a handful.

OK, so maybe it's not so charming.

But we still think the other names we considered don't hold a candle to it.
